How will AI impact business in the future?

Intro

There are a few technologies on my mind at the moment. I find myself engaging with people for hours on some of these subjects. We’re taking a business approach to the exciting emerging technologies, and how these can be used in everyday organisations.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)

AI and machine learning have the potential to revolutionize many aspects of business, including decision making, process optimization, and customer experience.

One of the main benefits of AI and ML is their ability to analyze large amounts of data and make informed decisions. By using these technologies, businesses can identify patterns and trends that may not be apparent to humans, which can lead to better decision making. For example, a retail company could use AI and ML to analyze customer purchase histories and make personalized product recommendations, leading to increased sales and customer satisfaction.

Another way that AI and ML can benefit businesses is by optimizing processes. By analyzing data and identifying bottlenecks or inefficiencies, businesses can use these technologies to streamline their operations and improve efficiency. For example, a manufacturing company could use AI and ML to optimize its supply chain, reducing costs and increasing productivity.

AI and ML can also enhance the customer experience by providing personalized and efficient service. For example, a customer service chatbot powered by AI and ML can handle a high volume of inquiries, providing quick and accurate responses to customer queries. This can not only improve customer satisfaction, but also free up human customer service representatives to handle more complex tasks.

Generative Artificial Intelligence

Generative AI, also known as generative models or generative adversarial networks (GANs), is a type of AI that is designed to generate new content, such as images, text, or audio. Large organizations can use generative AI to their benefit in a variety of ways. Here are a few examples:

  1. Content creation: Generative AI can be used to create new content for marketing and branding purposes. For example, a company might use a generative AI model to create new product images or design new logos and branding elements. This can be a cost-effective and time-saving way to create new content and refresh a company’s branding.
  2. Product design: Generative AI can be used to design new products or optimize existing products. For example, a company might use a generative AI model to design new products based on customer feedback or to optimize the performance of existing products by generating new prototypes.
  3. Customer service: Generative AI can be used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of customer service. For example, a company might use a generative AI model to generate personalized responses to customer inquiries or to identify common customer issues and suggest solutions.
  4. Art and design: Generative AI can be used to create new works of art or design new products. For example, a fashion company might use a generative AI model to design new clothing lines or to create new patterns and prints.
  5. Music: Generative AI can be used to create new music or to optimize music production. For example, a music production company might use a generative AI model to generate new melodies or to optimize the mixing and mastering of music tracks.
  6. Video games: Generative AI can be used to create new levels or game content. For example, a video game company might use a generative AI model to generate new game environments or to create new characters and objects.
  7. Education: Generative AI can be used to create new learning materials or to optimize the delivery of educational content. For example, an educational technology company might use a generative AI model to generate personalized lesson plans or to optimize the delivery of online courses. These could be generated individually depending on a person, their learning style etc
  8. Advertising: Generative AI can be used to create new ads or to optimize the targeting and delivery of advertising campaigns. For example, an advertising agency might use a generative AI model to generate new ad creatives or to optimize the targeting of ads to specific demographics. I think we will be in a place in the future (almost there now on some platforms) where you chuck in your website, set a budget and content will be created, tested and optimised for you completely automatically.

This is by far where we have seen the most advancements lately. If this is not on your radar as a business, you should really do some thinking about how you can use this. Personal productivity boosts is huge. Multiply this one factor across an organisation and the potential is huge.

Big data and cloud computing

The ability to collect, store, and analyze large amounts of data has the potential to drive significant business value. Leveraging cloud-based storage and processing solutions can make it easier and more cost-effective to work with large datasets. With cloud computing services available at a click. The ability to spin up a super computer in under a minute to perform humongous, distributed data transformations against billions of rows. It’s easier than ever for organisations to utilise every data point.

With the proliferation of connected devices and the increasing amount of data generated by businesses, it is becoming more important than ever for organizations to have the tools and infrastructure in place to effectively manage and make sense of this data.

One way that organizations can leverage data is through the use of business intelligence (BI) and analytics tools. These tools allow organizations to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform decision making and drive operational efficiency. For example, a retailer might use BI and analytics to identify sales patterns and optimize inventory management, leading to cost savings and increased profitability.

Data can also be used to improve customer experiences. By collecting and analyzing data on customer behavior and preferences, organizations can tailor their products and services to better meet the needs and wants of their customers. This can lead to increased customer satisfaction and loyalty.

In addition to BI and analytics, organizations can also leverage data to drive innovation and growth. By analyzing data on market trends and customer needs, businesses can identify new opportunities and develop strategies to capitalize on them. For example, a healthcare organization might use data to identify unmet medical needs and develop new products or services to address those needs.

Another way that organizations can leverage data is through the use of machine learning algorithms. These algorithms allow businesses to automatically learn and improve from data, without the need for explicit programming. By training machine learning models on large datasets, organizations can identify patterns and make predictions that can inform decision making and drive efficiency. For example, a financial services company might use machine learning to identify fraudulent activity or predict customer churn, allowing them to take proactive measures to mitigate these risks.

The IoT is also driving the ability for organizations to collect and analyze data on a large scale. With the proliferation of connected devices, businesses can collect real-time data on a wide range of operations, from manufacturing to transportation to customer service. This data can be used to optimize processes and improve the efficiency of operations, leading to cost savings and increased profitability. Let’s look more into IoT

Internet of Things (IoT)

The IoT is a network of connected devices that can collect and share data, and has the potential to drive significant efficiencies and innovation in a wide range of industries.

One of the main benefits of the IoT is the ability to collect and analyze data from connected devices in real-time. This can help organizations to optimize their operations and make better informed decisions. Here are some examples of that.

  1. Energy and utilities: The IoT can be used to monitor and control energy consumption in real-time, allowing energy companies to optimize their operations and reduce costs. For example, an energy company might use IoT-enabled smart meters to track and control energy usage in individual homes and buildings, allowing it to identify areas for improvement and reduce waste.

For example, an architecture firm might use AR/VR to create virtual mockups of buildings, allowing clients to experience and interact with their designs before they are built. This can lead to more efficient and effective design processes. If we can spend time in an environment that isn’t built, do we need to build it or would a VR mansion satisfy most to spend their time?
  3. Marketing and sales: AR/VR can be used to create immersive and engaging marketing and sales experiences. For example, a retail company might use AR/VR to allow customers to virtually try on clothing or furniture, helping them to make more informed purchasing decisions.
  4. Customer service: AR/VR can be used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of customer service. For example, a company might use AR/VR to provide virtual support and assistance to customers, allowing them to quickly and easily resolve issues. Instant AR tech support?

Blockchain

Blockchain technology has the potential to revolutionize the way businesses handle transactions and data, improving security and enabling more efficient and transparent processes. Terrible for the environment generally, with a bad reputation amongst most. Ranging from Crypto is for criminals or the meme coins are funny but not useful. How can we make use of it?

  1. Identity verification: Blockchain can be used to securely verify the identity of individuals and organizations. By using decentralized and encrypted records, organizations can reduce the risk of identity fraud and improve the efficiency of identity verification processes.
  2. Contract management: Blockchain can be used to manage and track the execution of contracts. By using smart contracts, organizations can automate the execution of contracts and reduce the risk of errors or fraud. This can lead to improved efficiency and reduced costs. We’ve heard that every concert ticket, plane ticket could be an NFT in the future?
  3. Healthcare: Blockchain can be used to improve the efficiency and security of healthcare data management. By using decentralized and encrypted records, healthcare organizations can securely store and share patient information, reducing the risk of data breaches and improving the quality of care.
  4. Supply chain sustainability: Blockchain can be used to improve the sustainability of supply chain operations. By using decentralized and encrypted records, organizations can track the origin and impact of their goods and materials, allowing them to identify and reduce their environmental impact.
  5. Intellectual property: Blockchain can be used to securely and transparently manage intellectual property (IP) rights. By using decentralized and encrypted records, organizations can protect their IP and ensure that they are fairly compensated for its use.

In conclusion, the potential is huge. Many organisations are not taking advantage of the technologies they have available to them. We’ve seen it time and time again for businesses. Lack of innovation and not adopting new technologies has seen companies going under in a very short period of time. We’ve talked about the benefits of adopting these technologies now, but there is a huge risk of not doing so too.

When the standard for online shopping is an immersive experience where I see myself in VR, can swipe yes/no for different parts of outfits and have instant feedback loops, will there be a place for anything less? Probably but it could very well be a small one. If a real estate agent isn’t doing online tours will they be able to keep up with a virtual company, able to walk through an unlimited amount of buyers/renters with an auto generated pre recorded experience. We will be able to make those videos on our smart phone automatically really soon, will we even need real estate agents at all? Could that whole industry be replaced by an app and provide a much better buying experience? Probably, not sure if anyone has been house hunting lately but I’ve been met with frustration at almost every turn.
